Rețeaua de socializare Facebook își închide programul de recunoaștere facială. Vor fi șterse toate fișierele sale de recunoaștere facială, ceea ce înseamnă că nu nu va mai recunoaște automat fețele oamenilor în fotografii sau videoclipuri.
Este o schimbare majoră în politica gigantului pentru că recunoașterea facială era o opțiune pe care compania a promovat-o multă vreme, în ciuda numeroaselor critici stârnite de îngrijorări legate de confidențialitatea datelor.
Decizia probabil a fost determinată și de amenzile pe care le-a primit recent Facebook în contextul folosirii acestei opțiuni dar și de numeroasele dispute în justiție în care rețeaua este parte. Gigantul încercă să își curețe numele pătat recent de dezvăluiri și documente apărute în presă.
Frances Haugen, o fostă angajată a platformei declara recent pentru Wall Street Journal că algoritmii folosiți de Facebook au un caracter dăunător la nivel social, iar managementul companiei cunoaște acest lucru, dar a ținut să ascundă situația de publicul larg.
Opțiunea de recunoaștere facială care acum este folosită de o treime dintre utilizatorii activi zilnici ai Facebook, adică peste 600 de milioane de conturi va dispărea din platformă în câteva săptămâni.
